The main event…limo sexage. The pregame…everything that came before.

On first viewing, the pregame can be seriously under-rated. I blame it mostly on Chuck’s habit of being deliciously inappropriate 97.38% of the time which makes it hard to decipher how much weight to put on the words that come out of his mouth. Therefore, in retrospect, I enjoy all the little subtleties that hinted at Chuck being attracted to Blair even more after knowing that it kicked off one hell of a main event.

Now, there are two quotes from Chuck that immediately come to mind:

“I’m honored to be playing even a small role in your deflowering.” (S1E2)

“Well you look ravishing. If I were your man I wouldn’t need clues to find you.” (S1E6) 

But there is one quote from S1E2 that I love the most out of everything Chuck said in the pregame show.

“So you slept with your best friend’s boyfriend. I kind of admire you for it.”

The latter half of Chuck’s statement is what I find to be most poignant. “I kind of admire you for it [sleeping with your best friend’s significant other].” The implications are astounding. For one, it implies that the thought of sleeping with his best friend’s girlfriend has crossed his mind. Why do I say this? Because often times when one admires an action, it is because he or she lacks the gumption to commit the deed him/herself. For example, a person wishes he/she could speak his/her mind so that person admires those who are able to express how they feel. Secondly, it hints at a line that the great Chuck Bass, king of womanizing, would not cross. Which then raises the question: Why would Chuck Bass not want to cross that line? The obvious answer is that he valued his friendship with Nate, but could there be more? (I often ponder, but never attempt to answer this question. It is a great open-ended question that will forever linger in my Chuck/Blair loving universe.) 

Although I wanted to focus on the pregame, one more point must be added. Blair, not Chuck, started the main event. Which again makes one wonder. Would Chuck have crossed the line he dared not cross before if Blair did not pull him over? He gave her an out when he asked, “Are you sure?” And what did Blair do? She let her actions speak louder than words when she leaned in for a kiss. And by returning that kiss Chuck decided to go for broke and pass the point of no return.

“I kind of admire you for it.”  *chuckles softly* Blast you Chuck Bass for making such a seemingly simple statement into one that has profound meaning. Best quote of the Chuck/Blair pregame for me.
